The Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire (RLCNH) held its first Forum on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Holiday Inn in Concord. Featured were Dr. Tom Woods, a senior fellow from the Ludwig von Mises Institute of Auburn University, and Harvard MBA venture capitalist Larry Lepard from Boston, MA.
The two speakers were well-received by an audience of about 80 political activists, and were joined by many state political office-holders and candidates, including U.S. Senate candidates Jim Bender and Bill Binnie, U.S. House Candidates Bob Giuda, Jennifer Horn, Frank Guinta, and Bob Bestani, and candidate for N.H. Governor Jack Kimball.
Larry Lepard, an investment advisor and managing partner with Equity Management Associates out of Boston, is notable for having earned investment increases for his clients during the stock market meltdown over the past year. He spoke on “Investing in this Time of Crisis” and provided voluminous hand-out documentation for the attendees on how the present national crisis developed, the oncoming hyperinflation, and how to protect yourself by investing and preparing for an inevitable economic crash in the next several years. A noted Ron Paul supporter in the 2008 Presidential elections, Lepard gained fame for funding an $85,000 full-page ad in the U.S.A. Today newspaper entitled “Ron Paul is the best hope America has to restore the Constitution and get our country back on track.”
Tom Woods
Dr. Tom Woods is the author of a number of books, including two New York Times best-sellers, “The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History” and “Meltdown: A Free Market Look at Why the Stock Market Collapsed, the Economy Tanks, and Government Bailouts Will Make Things Worse.” Dr. Woods, whose education includes degrees from Harvard and Columbia universities, spoke about the current political and economic situation in America, explaining how Austrian economic theory has for several years predicted that exactly the present crisis would occur.
Like Lepard, Dr. Woods noted that an economic crash and period of hyperinflation now appear unavoidable in America. His best-selling book “Meltdown,” he said, was written on a crash-schedule in the wake of the stock market crash in late 2008. It is designed to explain to the public in clear terms and sound economics how the federal government not only caused the 2008 market crash, but will continue to exacerbate the problem until a full-scale economic crash and period of hyperinflation result in needed adjustments in our economy. The rules of economics cannot be overcome, he noted, and the current government bailouts and other actions being taken to “help the economy,” are actually setting up more serious economic disruptions than would otherwise occur.
“The crowd was enthusiastic about both speakers,” said RLCNH chairman Jim Forsythe, who was also happy about the turnout for the first RLCNH Forum held in the state. “In future Forums,” he said, “we intend to bring in speakers that will give lectures on politics, economics, and various Liberty-related subjects. All of our RLCNH Forums will be open to the public.” Future speakers, he added, will range from the famous to the fascinating from the political, academic, and cultural spheres alike. All will be invited to lecture and comment on subjects ranging from the philosophy of individual liberty, to free market economics, to political campaigns and candidates, and will include candidates for national political office.
Forsythe, who has himself recently declared his interest in running for the New Hampshire State Senate, added that the RLCNH Forums are expected to draw in people who are both active in civic and political affairs, and who are interested in hearing both experts and candidates speak on current trends and events throughout America and the world.
Gary Johnson
The next Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire Forum will host former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson, a libertaria-Republican political maverick who may well be a GOP candidate for President in 2012. Johnson will appear in New Hampshire and speak on Saturday, January 23, 2010 in Concord. The RLCNH will publicize further information on its next Forum as plans are completed.
Proceeds from the Forums support pro-Liberty candidates for the N.H. House and Senate.
